Finding new venues seems to have become a tradition for the Schubertiade. The festival has been held in several different locations since its founding in 1976 in Hohenems, and has enjoyed an arguably Bohemian lifestyle. From 1994 till 2000, in addition to the regular concerts in Feldkirch, performances were organised in the "provinces", bringing the public out to some of the area's scenically loveliest places. Since 1994 one of these "provinces" was Schwarzenberg in the Bregenzerwald, which hosted a series of annual concerts. After the reconstruction of the Angelika-Kauffmann concert hall in 2001, the Schubertiade has made this venue in Schwarzenberg its permanent home.
