The most popular touring mountain is definitely the 2,010 m Portlahorn in Upper Damüls. You can choose from a number of different routes that take you up the mountain. Other possibilities include the Zafernhorn at 2,107 metres and the area around the 2,066 metre high Klippern. Just a short trip by bus or car will bring you to more starting points for delightful ski touring destinations in the Vorarlberg region.

Ski tours for beginners: Suggestions

Portlahorn (2,010 m)

An uncomplicated and well-loved panoramic tour through the ski region of Damüls. The departure point is the Jägerstüble on the road from Upper Damüls, with a total altitude difference of 400 metres to negotiate.

Brendler Lug (1,767 m)

From the carpark at the Au municipal office you can enjoy an easy ski tour through north-facing slopes and forest glades. The altitude difference between start and finish is 950 metres.

Ski touring tips for the advanced

Kanisfluh (2,044 m)

The huge ridges of the Kanisfluh can be tackled from the south side for a surprisingly beautiful ski tour. You will find the departure point from Damüls in the direction of Argenbachbrücke, where there is a carpark. Altitude difference: 1,250 m.

Tips for ski touring in the Bregenz Forest

Ascertain the length and difficulty of your planned route and check the weather and avalanche forecasts. Equipment for your tour can be hired from local sports outfitters. Inexperienced tourers are advised to approach one of the local ski schools to inquire about guided ski tours. In this way you can travel safely across the terrain and receive valuable tips as you go.
